Break the Silence
October is an important month for Damsel in Defense. As a company, our mission is to equip, empower, and educate others so women can protect themselves and their families against violence.
Domestic violence is best understood as a pattern of abusive behaviors–including physical, sexual, and psychological attacks. Domestic violence, also known as intimate partner violence, is a serious and widespread problem. In the United States, 1 in 4 women and 1 in 9 men experience contact sexual violence, physical violence, and/or stalking by an intimate partner in their lifetime and report negative impacts such as injury, fear, concern for safety, and needing services (CDC, 2017).
Domestic violence doesn’t discriminate.
Domestic violence can happen to anyone regardless of employment or educational level, race or ethnicity, religion, marital status, physical ability, age, or gender. Countless victims and survivors, their children, families, and communities have been impacted by domestic abuse.
If you have a loved one who is experiencing abuse it is important to listen and believe them. Encourage them to seek professional help but do not pressure them into any decisions.
Help is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
